Coming fourth on our list is the Char-Broil Classic 405 Grill. It is one of the best, if not the best price-to-value ratio grills out there. It has the price tag of a simple 2-burner gas grill but features a huge cooking area combined with 4 burners. Still, the company had to do some price cuts at certain places, to which we will get in this review.
Before we dive deeper, you can check out our full Buyer’s Guide to learn more about the gas grill models we’ve decided to feature for this year’s top 5 list. You will also find tons of good and handy information about what to look for when buying your first model there.
Features That Make It Stand Out
What stands out the most about this Char-Broil grill is its affordability. Nothing beats a well-priced product, honestly, and this definitely is one. In a price point swarmed with 2-burner smaller gas grills, this 4-burner model with huge cooking area really stands out.
There are more than 400 inches of square cooking space here, which isn’t great but is also a good amount for if you want to make burgers for everyone at that party at the same time. Still, for a 4-burner this isn’t exactly big, as some other 3-burner models have 100+ square inches more.
Materials & Construction
Even though you’d think that at this price you shouldn’t expect much, Char-Broil will pleasantly surprise you. The grates on this grill are porcelain coated. This is an extremely rare feature for this price-tag and is something that will greatly improve the overall cooking experience and how easy it is to maintain your grill.
The firebox and the lid themselves are made from steel, which isn’t specified what kind it is. That is the first place you notice the price-cut that had to be done to get down to this particular price. Still, Char-Broil claim that you can leave the grill out in the rain and other weather elements without worrying about it. Our advice would be to get a grill cover for it and store it properly when the weather isn’t ideal for it.
If you don’t want to always keep it inside you can always roll it back in thanks to its lightweight construction and wheel system. After all its a liquid propane grill meaning it just needs a propane bottle anywhere and it will be good to go.

The Cooking Experience
Cooking on this grill is very easy. It has 4 burners with one main one which has a total output of more than 30 000 BTUs, making is more than good enough for anything you want to cook. The gas system works on propane and you will have to hook up a bottle before taking it for a spin.
Thanks to its special gas delivery system and burning methods, this Char-Broil grill heats up very fast and when the lid is put on it can create some serious conditions underneath it.
The ignition of the system happens with the press of a button thanks to their patented piezo-system. The burners are from stainless steel meaning the residue water from the propane gas won’t damage them over time. This is great, as most other metal burners tend to live only up to a few years before giving up on you.
When cooking burgers, we found out that the 29 inches wide and 14 inches deep cooking surface is more than enough to make nearly 20 burger steaks. This is again what makes this grill so appealing. It is cheap but it can also do some serious business when it comes to cooking things like whole turkeys, or burgers for the whole party.
Something also great here is that besides the large cooking area you get a 190 square inch warming rack which surprisingly is also made out of porcelain coated cast-iron.
There are two metal shelves at both sides which can be folded down any time you don’t need them. They are great for keeping food close to the grill where it is warm, or for seasoning your meat just before you throw it onto the fire.
Now that we’ve gone through all of its features, let’s check out what are the strong points, as well as which are the weak ones about the Char-Broil Classic Grill.
