How to Use an Electric Grill

Of course, you’ll need to stick close to an outlet or have an extension cord on hand, which can be a drawback for some people. Electric grills are also often used indoors, as an alternative to outdoor grilling, but there are also heavy-duty models specifically designed for outdoor use as well. This type of grill is similar to a traditional grill. They produce results that are similar to gas and charcoal grills, however, they run on electricity instead of gas or charcoal. There are a couple of different types of electric grills; an open grill, which looks like a standard outdoor grill and comes with one grate, and a contact grill, which works by pressing two heated plates against the food on the grate. Food that’s grilled on an electric will not taste quite the same as food that’s prepared on a gas or charcoal grill, but they’re much easier to use and provide even heat distribution.
To use an open grill, you’ll need to place it on a flat, even surface. These grills tend to get very hot, which makes them a fire hazard. Before adding food to the grate, make sure you lightly spray down the cooking surface with a type of cooking spray, if the grill doesn’t have a nonstick cooking surface. The next step is preheating the open grill. Some models will come with an on and off setting, while other models will simply allow you to choose the desired temperature. Make sure you stick close to the grill as the food cooks to prevent overcooking it. Use a digital meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the food before you remove it from the cooking surface. Use a pair of tongs to remove the food off the grill, unplug it, and allow it to completely cool down before cleaning. The plates should be wiped down with a damp rag or sponge and allowed to air dry.
